South Dakota DMV Information
South Dakota DPS handles CDL testing. You'll need an appointment at a DPS exam station. Locations include Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, and more. The hazmat endorsement test costs $10 plus the CDL fee. You must pass a background check (TSA).
Bring your valid CDL, Social Security card, and proof of residency. Walk-ins aren't allowed – schedule online. For the written test, you have 40 minutes. After passing, you get the H endorsement added to your license.
Remember: South Dakota requires a separate endorsement for tanker (N) if you haul liquid hazmat.
