New Jersey DMV Information
You can take the General Knowledge test at any NJ MVC agency that offers CDL services. No appointment required for the written test, but you'll want to arrive early – lines get long. The test costs $10 and you have 60 minutes to finish 50 questions.
Passing score is 80%. Fail? You can retake the test the same day if you pay the fee again. But we recommend studying more first. Your passing score stays valid for 2 years, so you've got time to complete the skills test after you pass.
Bring your valid NJ driver's license, social security card, and proof of residency. Out-of-state? Transfer your CDL after passing the knowledge test. No medical examiner's certificate needed for the knowledge test, but you'll need it before the skills test.
